Drop-In Diesel Engine Installation Checklist
This is the quick-start procedure we recommend to protect your engine and your time. Print it and keep it on the cart during install.
Pre-Install (On the Stand)
- Replace external hoses/gaskets that are hard to access in-frame.
- Prime oil system and pre-fill filters; verify oil pressure on the stand if possible.
- Inspect flywheel housing, pilot, dowels, and mounts for alignment and damage.
In-Chassis Fit
- Confirm fan shroud clearance and pulley alignment; check CAC/radiator plumbing.
- Connect harnesses; verify ground integrity and battery health before key-on.
- Pre-check fuel supply for restriction and air leaks.
First Start
- Log oil pressure, coolant delta-T, and boost (where applicable).
- Watch for leaks and abnormal smoke; verify VGT/EGR actuations if equipped.
- Let it heat soak; shut down and re-torque manifold hardware after first cycle.
Road Test & After-Run
- Verify no CAC leaks; monitor EGTs and fuel trims/rail pressure as available.
- Scan for new codes; document baseline data for future reference.
- Re-check fluids and fasteners after first 100–200 miles.
